Winning entry in the Maarjavälja green area competition has been announced
The design competition for the green area in Maarjavälja, which ran until mid-August, received three entries. The authors of the entries were published on 5 September at the University café.

Institute of Technology IMS lab is organizing a webinar series, the first of which will take place on May 20th! The webinar "Manufacturing & industrial insights and tendencies" is organized in 3 sessions of 2 hours each and the speakers will interact with the participants to make them explore the latest challenges and trends of manufacturing sector and learn how to use specific techniques in innovation projects. The first speaker will be Priit Kull who is a project leader of the Mars house - Self-Deployable Habitat for Extreme Environments (SHEE).

The IMS lab held a course for AM engineers
The IMS Lab in the institute of technology held a course „Training on multi-scale modelling simulations for additive manufacturing“ for students. By passing the course, students who were interested in working as a design engineer could evaluate their competencies and knowledge in additive manufacturing (AM). They could analyze their skills and knowledge necessary working in that field. The course addressed the most common needs for AM engineers. It was a hands-on experience in optimization of product design, mostly concentrating on topology optimization.

The University of Tartu senate’s decision not to admit new students from Russia and Belarus this year to bachelor’s and master’s studies has caused much controversy. Some people see this as a particular discriminatory step against the young people of these countries, including opponents of the regime, depriving them of the opportunity to study in the free world.

On 7 March, the university family gathered in front of the main building with Ukrainian flags and other symbols and recorded the address of the University of Tartu senate to the Ukrainian people.

Information to the university family during the war in Ukraine
Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the University of Tartu has been actively engaged in supporting its Ukrainian staff and students and preparing for the reception of refugees from Ukraine. Among other measures, the university plans to allow Ukrainian students to study at the university without paying the tuition fee and apply for financial support. The first Christmas video of the university was released on 28 November, the First Advent Sunday. The project was led by the International Cooperation and Protocol Office and the video was produced by Jopp Creative, a Tartu-based creative agency.
