On April 4-5, 2024, a conference will take place at Aqua Hotel & Spa in Rakvere, bringing together researchers and doctoral students from the Institute of Technology to share new knowledge in the scientific field.
The conference will be opened by the director, Professor Reet Kurg, who will introduce developments related to the institute's new building. The one-and-a-half-day conference offers participants a diverse range of scientific and popular science presentations. Among other topics, Tanel Tenson will discuss antibiotic resistance in the One Health context, and Marje Kasari will share insights into POP-out-plasmid technology for antibiotic-free protein production in E. coli bacteria. After the lunch break, the program continues with several exciting presentations, including Veikko Linkko's talk on multifunctional DNA origami and Emeritus Professor Agu Laisa's presentation on the feasibility of life in an oxygen-rich atmosphere. The day concludes with a competitive game led by doctoral students.
Artificial intelligence has found widespread use in many fields, from marketing to software development. Belgian researchers have even trained artificial intelligence to brew better beer. The second day begins with a seminar and discussion on the use of artificial intelligence in scientific writing, where best practices are shared and dilemmas associated with AI use are discussed. This is followed by a parallel session where doctoral students share their experiences in writing scientific articles in the small hall, while in the large hall, an overview of grant writing opportunities is provided with the assistance of the Research Council, the university's grant center, and private companies. Additionally, Associate Professors Hanna Hõrak and Andreas Kyritsakis, along with Professor Leho Tedersoo, will share their experiences in applying for grants from the European Research Council.
The Institute of Technology's conference promises participants two days filled with diverse and inspiring science, excellent discussions, and opportunities to share knowledge and experiences with colleagues.
