Research:

The research group of ERA Chair in Gas Fermentation Technologies (GasFermTEC) led by Dr. Kaspar Valgepea aims to develop a new research cluster in gas fermentation technologies within the Estonian Centre for Synthetic Biology and Biosustainability (ECSBB) at the University of Tartu (UT). GasFermTEC specifically employs gas fermentation technologies together with systems and synthetic biology methods to address global challenges of biosustainability and a balanced carbon cycle. Furthermore, it coordinates the strategic planning of a microbial pilot plant project that aims to optimise bioprocesses utilising various carbon sources (syngas, lignocellulosic sugars, etc). The group also aims to initiate a structural change that would present a novel form of partnership between academia and industry linked together by a regional competence centre for bioprocess optimisation and biosustainability research.
