Future Skills for Technical Fields: Integrating Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Self-Management into the Curriculum

The project "Future Skills for Technical Fields: Integrating Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Self-Management into the Curriculum" focuses on creating a new course that combines practical and academic skills in high technology and leadership. The course, titled "Investing in the Future: Learning, Career, and Personal Development," is led by renowned expert Aleksander Tõnnisson, offering students high-quality, job market-relevant education.

Project Objective and Outcomes

The main objective of the project is to promote the personal and professional development of engineering students by designing and implementing a new course, "Investing in the Future: Learning, Career, and Personal Development for Engineering Students." This course is part of a broader strategy to integrate high-tech innovation into engineering education at the University of Tartu. The 6 ECTS course aims to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to support their career planning and personal vision development.

The course content covers defining personal values, time management techniques, financial planning and investment strategies, communication skills development, as well as leadership and entrepreneurship competencies. Active learning methods—such as practical exercises, group discussions, and simulations—help students apply theoretical knowledge in practice.

Expected outcomes include increased student awareness and motivation toward their field, improved ability to achieve personal and career goals, and enhanced adaptability to labor market demands. The course implementation supports the University of Tartu’s strategic goals and fosters the development of the technology sector by providing innovative and competitive education aligned with industry needs.

Additionally, the long-term vision of the project is to strengthen the University of Tartu’s contribution to research and development in the field of electronics. By involving a top-level specialist who supports R&D, the university fosters innovation and the development of new technologies, potentially resulting in new patents and scientific publications. This enhances the university’s reputation as a hub of innovation capable of generating new knowledge and technologies that support both the local and global tech sectors.
