Research:

Together with Plant Signal Research group, we study stomatal regulation, focussing more on crops and other species instead of model plants – it is not clear whether/how much stomatal regulation of monocots or other dicots differs from that of Arabidopsis. We have a unique custom-built gas exchange system to study photosynthesis and transpiration in larger plants than Arabidopsis; the first results obtained are important not only fundamentally, but assist in plant breeding as well. Field experiments with crops are performed together with Estonian Crop Research Institute.
